About this camp

The Broad Summer Scholars Program (BSSP) is a highly competitive, paid six-week research internship for rising high school seniors at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Participants engage in original biomedical research alongside Broad scientists, focusing on areas such as cancer biology, psychiatric disease, chemical biology, computational biology, and infectious disease. The program emphasizes hands-on laboratory or computational work, allowing students to contribute to ongoing scientific studies under direct supervision. Skills gained include research methodology, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and computational skills like using Python for data analysis and visualization. Students also develop presentation skills by creating and presenting scientific posters to the Broad community. The program aims to provide a transformative learning experience, expose students to scientific careers, and foster a sense of belonging in STEM, particularly encouraging students from underrepresented backgrounds.
