Brandeis Precollege Programs (Genesis) offers a three-week residential summer program for exceptional high school students aged 15-18. Students engage in college-level learning through academic courses developed in partnership with Brandeis faculty and staff. The program emphasizes Jewish learning and identity-building, blending rigorous coursework with experiential Jewish life, including informal Jewish experiences and joyful Shabbat celebrations. Participants choose one academic course, meeting two hours daily, five days a week, and are expected to complete all course readings, research, and assignments. The program also includes interest-based, creative Jewish learning and programming during weekday afternoons, such as creative writing, making music, visual art, pluralism and leadership, Torah and Talmud study, and advanced research skills. Students develop a capstone initiative on a topic of interest, with the intent to extend their work beyond the summer into their home communities. The program aims to help students gain expertise in their chosen academic course, deepen their Jewish identity, and build lasting friendships with Jewish students from around the world.
Students attend college-level courses for two hours each morning, Monday through Friday, followed by interest-based Jewish learning and programming (Nesiyot/Explorations) in the afternoons, and Kavanot (Spiritual Practice) and informal programming in the evenings and on Shabbat.
The program is designed for academically curious, Jewishly-engaged high school students (ages 15-18) who want to explore contemporary topics through a Jewish lens and deepen their Jewish identity within a pluralistic community.
