Athletes receive world-class instruction from top collegiate coaches and take home a comprehensive training toolkit, including programs and a 400-exercise inventory, to support long-term development.
Ascent Track & Field Clinics at Harvard offer high school athletes an immersive two-day experience focused on advanced track and field techniques. The curriculum emphasizes biomechanical principles and periodization to enhance performance and foster an understanding of elite training concepts. Athletes will engage in event-specific drills, technical instruction, and discussions on training methodology. The clinic aims to provide a comprehensive framework for year-round training, integrating technical skill, movement quality, and power development. Participants will learn practical systems for assembling approaches, foundational skills, and season-long progressions in their training. The program also includes ancillary routines to prevent injuries and strengthen deficiencies, ensuring a productive training environment that extends beyond the clinic.
The clinic is open to all event groups, including sprints, hurdles, jumps (high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault), and throws (shot put, discus, javelin), and caters to all skill levels. World-class coaches, including those from Harvard and other top collegiate programs, lead the sessions. Athletes will gain insights into acceleration mechanics, hurdle rhythm, maximal velocity posture, approach consistency, rotational power, and release angles. The clinic also covers the mental aspects of competition and offers a high-level framework for sprint performance. Attendees will receive training programs and a 40-routine, 400-exercise training inventory from featured coach Boo Schexnayder to continue their development.
A typical day includes registration, staff introductions, dynamic warm-ups, event-specific drill work and technical instruction, lunch, an all-clinic coaches' panel, and further event-specific training and analysis, concluding around 4 PM.
This clinic is best for high school athletes of all skill levels who are serious about improving their track and field performance and understanding the 'why' behind elite training.
